ON THE AIR: NIRVANA 'NEVERMIND'! (DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!)

Although Bleach is my favourite Nirvana album, tonight, at My-Very-Personal-Mood Radio Station I feel like some ''Come as you are'', ''In bloom'' and ''Polly''..

Nevermind is Nirvana's second studio album, released on September 24, 1991. Produced by Butch Vig, Nevermind was the group's first release on DGC Records. Frontman Kurt Cobain sought to make music outside the restrictive confines of the Seattle grunge scene, drawing influence from groups such as the Pixies and their use of song volume dynamics.

Nirvana was a band from Aberdeen, Washington, formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, that had signed to Seattle independent record label Sub Pop. The group released its debut album Bleach in 1989, with Chad Channing on drums. However, Channing left Nirvana in 1990, and the band was in need of a permanent drummer. During a show by hardcore punk band Scream, the group's drummer, Dave Grohl (founder of Foo Fighters), impressed Novoselic and Cobain. When Scream unexpectedly disbanded, Grohl contacted Novoselic, made his way to Seattle, and was soon invited to join the band. Novoselic said in retrospect that when Grohl joined the band, everything "fell into place". Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era. 

Rolling Stone described Nirvana's influence as having "kicked in" the 1990s as a musical era, adding that their music "guaranteed the nineties would not suck," and claimed that the band "transformed rock for a generation." According to the magazine, "few bands in rock history have had a more immediate and tangible impact on their contemporary pop musical landscape than Nirvana did in the early Nineties."

Nevermind was released on September 24, 1991. American record stores received an initial shipment of 46,251 copies, while 35,000 copies were shipped in the United Kingdom, where Bleach had been successful. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 144. As the band set out for their European tour at the start of November 1991, Nevermind entered the Billboard Top 40 for the first time at number 35. Nevermind became Nirvana's first number one album on January 11, 1992, replacing Michael Jackson's Dangerous at the top of the Billboard charts. By this time, Nevermind was selling approximately 300,000 copies a week. "Come as You Are" was finally released as the second single in March 1992, also becoming a hit; it peaked at number nine on the UK Singles Chart and at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Two more singles, "Lithium" and "In Bloom", were released from the album, which peaked at number 11 and 28 on the UK Singles Chart respectively. Nevermind was certified Gold and Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in November 1991, and was certified Diamond in March 1999.

The album has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Nevermind was responsible for bringing alternative rock to a large mainstream audience, and has been ranked highly on lists of the greatest albums of all time by publications such as Rolling Stone and Time. In September 2011, in honor of the album's 20th anniversary, Universal Music Enterprises released a 2-CD Deluxe Edition and a 4-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition of Nevermind.

In 2013, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced Nirvana as a nominee for inclusion (along with KISS and Deep Purple - as much as I appreciate both bands I hope with all my heart that Nirvana will win. PLEASE VOTE HERE!), in the band's first year of eligibility; the museum's biography of the band states that Nirvana "start[ed] a rock revolution" and "remain an enduring influence and challenge", before declaring them "proof that the right band with the right noise can change the world."

HYDE PARK DIGITAL LIVE ALBUM!

The Rolling Stones have released portions of their last two concerts as a digital-only live album. Hyde Park Live, drawn from the band's gigs in London on 6 and 13 July, is available on iTunes for the next four weeks. 

This 19-song collection features highlights from both of the Stones' recent shows, including performances of Start Me Up, Brown Sugar and Paint It Black and the show's guest appearance from Mick Taylor, who features on their rendition of Midnight Rambler and (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. Even if you already have a live disc by the Stones, only eight of the tracks featured on the digital-only release appeared on their most recent concert album, 2008's Shine a Light.

The album is available exclusively on iTunes through Aug. 19!

THE SUPERGROUP: ATOMS FOR PEACE!

Atoms For Peace is an experimental rock & electronic supergroup formed in late 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The group consists of Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, and piano), Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich (keyboards, synths), Joey Waronker of Beck & R.E.M. (drums) and Brazilian instrumentalist Mauro Refosco (percussion) of Forro in the Dark. Their debut album, Amok, became available for streaming on February 18, 2013, and was released on February 25, 2013.

KLINGHOFFER, NO BEEF!

Josh Adam Klinghoffer (born October 3, 1979) is an American multi-instrumentalist, who is best known as the current guitarist for the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. Klinghoffer replaced his friend and frequent collaborator John Frusciante, who left the band in 2009. Klinghoffer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on April 14, 2012, becoming the Hall of Fame's youngest-ever inductee.

Klinghoffer also fronts Dot Hacker, and was a member of Ataxia (alongside Frusciante) and The Bicycle Thief. He most commonly plays guitar or drums, and sings backup as well as lead. He has also both recorded and toured as a session musician with Gnarls Barkley, Sparks, PJ Harvey, Beck, The Butthole Surfers, Golden Shoulders and Vincent Gallo amongst others.

 The biker jacket evolved from the leather jackets originally worn by drivers and pilots in the late 19th century. These provided a shield against dust, grease and weather (essential in the days when cars and cockpits were unenclosed), as well as some protection in the event of an accident. When the motorcycle came onto the scene, a jacket with similar properties was required for riders, with the principal modifications that it would be shorter in length than driving coats, and less bulky than leather flight jackets.
