GALLIANO'S BACK!

After three years in fashion exile, John Galliano has joined Maison Martin Margiela as Creative Director of all its lines, it was announced in a statement yesterday.

“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul. John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time – a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.” - said Renzo Rosso, president of OTB

For those of us, who loved and lived for Galliano’s work until 2011 – and defended him against the scapegoatism that became his reality in the years after – it’s a welcome and way overdue return. But one, nonetheless, that comes with a few obvious and unanswered questions. For instance, how will one of the most famous designers in the world front the most famously anonymous house in the world? Will he come out for his bow post-finale, something that’s never happened at Margiela? Or will they send him out in one of those jewel-encrusted masks they made for Kanye West?

Galliano is expected to show his first designs for Maison Martin Margiela in January during Paris Couture Week, and will take charge of all collections, including ready-to-wear. The collection will the first under Galliano’s creative control since he was dismissed by Dior in March 2011.
