FERRAGAMO TRIBUTE TO MARILYN!

THE MUSEO Salvatore Ferragamo is marking the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death by releasing a book of iconic and previously unseen photographs of the star. The tome coincides with an exhibition currently being held at the Florence museum.

The book - simply titled Marilyn - is edited by museum director Stefania Ricci and art critic Sergio Risaliti, and features imagery of the actress from throughout her life and career; on film sets, at home, and in public. It's due to hit shelves on September 25.

The accompanying 50th anniversary exhibition sees 50 of Monroe's outfits on display - including her favourite Salvatore Ferragamo footwear. The actress was a loyal customer of the Italian fashion house, and is credited with making Ferragamo's four inch-heel pumps world famous.

GRAPHIC KNITS!

From drinks with friends to weekend lunches, by way of après-ski activities and meeting your partner's parents, there's something about wearing a graphic knit that says:

"I'm a dependable, amicable sort of guy with a sense of style and personality to boot

Wearers of patterned sweaters don't get into fights outside bars, or leer at waitresses; they're good guys - people you want to know.

Combine this with the fact that boldly patterned knitwear is on trend for the coming season!!! (numerous designers including Paul Smith, Etro and Burberry Prorsum included it in their AW12 shows) and you're onto a winner. Stay ahead of the pack and get in on the action early, by clicking through the gallery above to see six of our favourite graphic knits.

MOONWALK, 'JUST' A JOB!

Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, has died aged 82.
May He Rest In Peace!

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" Armstrong said.
(Armstrong insisted later that he had said "a'' before man, but said he too couldn't hear it in the version that went to the world.)

He commanded the historic landing of the Apollo 11 spacecraft on the moon July 20, 1969, capping the most daring of the 20th century's scientific expeditions and becoming the first man to walk on the moon.

STYLE STAPLES: DOUBLE TAKE!

This season, if you had to come up with one key word in relation to the new collections it would be velvet. The soft cotton fabric was popular with all the designers, and has progressed from being the preserve of evening wear, in the form of smoking jackets, to being a vital part of a smart daytime wardrobe. Chief among its virtues is the fact that women admire its tactility, and as a result are given to stroking it; however, the fact that it's smart but has nothing to do with office wear is almost as appealing. The ability to master chic off-duty outfits is the hallmark of the well-dressed man, and velvet has a big role to play in that endeavour.

MR THOM BROWNE, THE INTERVIEW!

PERHAPS ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL DESIGNERS IN MENSWEAR!

There's a prevalence of men showing bare ankles in fashionable circles these days, and we have one man to pin it on: Mr Thom Browne. The Allentown, Pennsylvania-born US designer, whose own rigid uniform is a testament to his bestselling aesthetic, rose to fashion fame when he started his own label in 2001. It was because of the new proportions he introduced to the men's market: tight, upright, proper suits that were just a wee bit shrunken. Whereas Mr Hedi Slimane's silhouette at his first spell at Dior Homme was tight yet subversive, Mr Browne's look is tailored yet seemingly conservative. In the years since his label debuted he's won such awards as the Council of Fashion Designers of America Menswear Designer of the Year and GQ's Designer of the Year. His shows are some of the most anticipated on the menswear fashion circuit: he has shown men in 18th-century inspired clothes for a royal feast in a ballroom in Paris; in New York he did a show inspired by the sport of tennis and showed suits paired with huge crinolines; in Florence, and this was perhaps my favourite show, he had 40 identically dressed men at a phalanx of desks looking more dapper than a whole season of Mad Men. For Mr Browne's most recent show in Paris, he presented a colourful collection of layered cropped jackets and short shorts in patchworks, neons and prepster appliqués. To welcome his eponymous label to MR PORTER, they caught up with the designer to talk about the convenience of wearing suits every day, political style and what he thinks makes for a snappy dresser.

HAVE AN 'ENCHANTED EVENING'!

I know my blog starts to seem like a cheap pirate radio station - given the wide ranging musical genres that I post almost daily. But in the end that's the advantage of having a personal blog - you can post whaaatever you feel like, whenever you feel like and bla bla. So, since my life/plans/future/present/dreams and so on change from one minute to another, so does my music. Now enjoy this 'Christmas Eve' song on a hot summer afternoon! love!

THE LOOK & THE BRAND: MR ARMANDO CABRAL!

'"Looks are always important, but the comfort of a shoe trumps all." says Mr Armando Cabral after a quick glance at my rather worn-in tennis shoes as we sit chatting on a secluded bench in New York City's Washington Square Park. Still just 30 years old and with a modelling career that already spans more than 10 years (he's appeared on and within the covers of numerous publications such as Numéro Homme, GQ, and L'Uomo Vogue), Portuguese Mr Cabral is now busy promoting his latest venture: a perfectly proportioned shoe collection. Set up in 2009, he saw establishing his shoe brand as a way to fine-tune what, to him, was the perfect shoe. Now fully formed, his collection is an innovative interpretation of European styles that range from leather sandals and elegant dress shoes to contemporary sneakers.'

How did you go from modelling to shoe design?
I've always loved shoes and had a passion for design. My mother was a tailor so I was always surrounded by the act of creating. There was a moment when I wasn't able to find the perfect shoes that I wanted and this became an obsession of sorts. I finally thought it would be best to create my own and now I'm on my fifth collection.

LEATHERS: BAGS OF STYLE!

Whether you're hitting the beach, the pool or the road, keep a stylish holdall to hand!

Although we're not against small suitcases with wheels for practical purposes, especially when travelling for business, you can't beat a good old-fashioned holdall in the style stakes. The fact that you have to exert some effort to carry a full holdall adds a masculine dimension to their appeal. If you're whisking your beloved away for the weekend, a small pull-along case (incidentally similar to the ones that air stewardesses use) won't convey the optimum message. You should be thinking spontaneity, adventure and style, and not look as if you're trundling off to the annual cost-cutting conference. Check the gallery below to see five holdalls that fit the bill.

Shop the entire collection here!

Bringing to mind vintage motoring luggage from the days when travel was an altogether more stylish affair, this handsome leather holdall also demonstrates that this New York Brand excels at more than just jeans

RUGGED AND REBELLIOUS: THE BIKER JACKET!

Rugged and rebellious, the biker jacket is an enduring wardrobe staple!

There's something about leather biker jackets: as soon as you slip one on, you instantly become a more rebellious, alive version of yourself, with the swagger to match - even if you're not actually a biker or rock star. It doesn't matter if the closest contact you have with a motorbike is when a courier delivers your online shopping; biker jackets are such a masculine and effortlessly stylish wardrobe staple, it's impossible to resist getting in on the action. Check the gallery below to see a handful of men who have worn them well, and to learn more about the origins of this enduring classic.

The biker jacket evolved from the leather jackets originally worn by drivers and pilots in the late 19th century. These provided a shield against dust, grease and weather (essential in the days when cars and cockpits were unenclosed), as well as some protection in the event of an accident. When the motorcycle came onto the scene, a jacket with similar properties was required for riders, with the principal modifications that it would be shorter in length than driving coats, and less bulky than leather flight jackets.
